What Is An Essential Oil?
Mankind’s First Pharmacology
Historical records dating back 6500 years describe ancient Egyptians using essential oils for medicinal purposes as well as in beauty serums and perfume. Hieroglyphics on the walls inside Egyptian temples illustrate hundreds of oil recipes.

In 1922, when King Tut’s tomb was unsealed, archaeologists discovered 50 alabaster essential oil jugs. Tomb robbers had stolen nearly all of the precious oil but left behind the heavy jugs. When the oil residues were tested they were found to have maintained all of their chemical constituents for more than 3200 years!

During WWI, the use of essential oils in military and civilian hospitals was widespread.
In WWII, Dr. Jean Valnet was a physician working in China when his supply of antibiotics ran out. He turned to therapeutic grade essential oils in order to treat wounded soldiers off the battle field. He discovered the oils exhibited a powerful ability to heal infection and was able to save the lives of many men who might have otherwise died.
In the 20th century, antibiotics and prescription drugs dominated the medical landscape and essential oils were all but forgotten in the US. Over the last two decades, as more information surfaces regarding the harmful side effects of synthetic chemicals, many researchers and health-care professionals are rediscovering the ancient wisdom and therapeutic value of essential oils.
